Hi, I'm Ben. I currently work as an Operations Officer within a university. My current role is a very diverse one that has involved a wide range of activities, such as: commissioning and running a centralised high performance computing facility, the management and administration of servers, switches, storage and desktop machines, writing multiple sets of documentation for a variety of users, running and implementing the essential backend services necessary to keep all computer systems functional, including managing backups. I also aid in the purchasing of equipment and provide support to around 100 people on a large assortment of issues, who all have different levels of technical abilities and experience. Having strong communication abilities is a key part of the work I do.
In 2019 I completed my PhD at Keele University under the supervision of Prof. Coel Hellier. My thesis involved the follow-up study and characterisation of planets that exist outside of our solar system. I used both space and ground-based telescopes to refine orbital parameters and detect the thermal emission of the dayside atmosphere of multiple exoplanets.
